From Osaka to TODA: Japan, Reimagined at TODA
As the mercury rises gently in Dubai, at TODA, we’re celebrating Japan in our own immersive way. As the world’s gaze shifts eastward, we’re opening our doors to experiences that go beyond the surface—touching on emotion, artistry, and storytelling. Our journey features two special shows, both designed to capture the heart and soul of Japan—and bring it closer to our Dubai community.
Dreams of Miyazaki – April 27 at 6 PM & 8 PM
If the name Miyazaki sparks a sense of wonder in your heart, you’re not alone. His worlds—full of flying castles, enchanted forests, and gentle giants—have inspired generations. For one night only, we invite you to step into that magical universe.
Dreams of Miyazaki is an immersive piano experience performed by the talented Gayane Aslanyan, an award-winning pianist known for transforming film scores into pure emotion. Set inside our signature 360° venue, the concert reimagines beloved Studio Ghibli melodies—from Totoro and Mononoke to Nausicaä and Laputa—through the expressive language of solo piano.
And it’s not just the music that will move you. Stunning visuals will surround you, pulling you right into Miyazaki’s dreamscapes. It’s cinematic, nostalgic, and utterly transportive.
BONUS: A Rare Pre-Show Experience for True Fans
Before the music begins, we’re offering something special for those eager to dive deeper. At 5 PM, step into TODA’s hidden room for a one-hour lecture titled “Miyazaki’s World: Magic, Legacy & Storytelling,” curated with ArtDep, one of the UAE’s most dynamic cultural collectives.
ArtDep is known for hosting engaging art talks, film discussions, and book clubs that celebrate creativity and community. For this session, they’ll guide us through Miyazaki’s life and work—from his early influences to the rise of Studio Ghibli, exploring the themes that make his stories so enduring.
Here’s what you can expect:
An overview of Miyazaki’s career and philosophy
Insights into the artistic and cultural forces shaping him
A look at Ghibli’s founding and impact
Exploration of recurring themes like nature, flight, feminism, and war
A discussion on visual storytelling techniques
Reflections on his final film and his lasting global legacy
Tickets for the lecture are available separately or as part of a concert package. And yes—you can attend both the lecture and the shows at 6 PM or 8 PM. It’s a rare chance to truly understand the magic behind Miyazaki’s music and stories.
The Echoes of Japan – May 23 at 8 PM
A few weeks later, we’ll explore a different facet of Japanese culture.
The Echoes of Japan, performed by the acclaimed TOKIWA Ensemble, is a musical journey through centuries of tradition and innovation. It’s raw, rhythmic, and one of our most powerful concerts yet.
Picture the haunting breath of the shakuhachi, the delicate pluck of the koto, the thunderous beats of taiko drums, and lyrical Japanese vocals—all coming together in a mesmerizing sonic tapestry. From the serenity of Edo-period ballads to energetic reinterpretations of modern hits (including a surprise Ed Sheeran twist), this concert will take you on an unforgettable trip.
And as always, stunning visuals will surround you, amplifying every note and deepening your experience.
Japan, Your Way—No Passport Needed
While many are preparing to journey to Osaka, we invite you to stay right here and let Japan come to you. These events are more than just concerts—they’re invitations to feel the culture, to step into its rhythm, its imagination, and its soul.
Whether you’re soaring through Ghibli skies or resonating with ancient melodies, TODA is your gateway to Japan this spring.
See you inside the dream!
