Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, as a Video Engineer at TODA. You will be responsible for responsible for the design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of all video-related equipment and systems used in TODA. You will be part of a dynamic and supportive team that is dedicated to delivering exceptional experiences and engaging the audience in a new type of art. This role requires expertise in both traditional theatrical techniques and digital technology to create captivating visual experiences for live audiences.
Key Responsibilities:
Production Management:
Collaborate closely with producers’ team to understand the artistic vision for each production and develop technical solutions to bring that vision to life.
Oversee the planning and execution of all technical elements of productions, including lighting, projection, special effects, and automation.
Manage production budgets and resources effectively, ensuring that projects are delivered on time and within budgetary constraints.
Technology Integration:
Stay abreast of the latest advancements in digital technology, including virtual reality, augmented reality, motion capture, and interactive systems.
Evaluate new technologies and tools for potential integration into our productions, working closely with the creative team to explore innovative storytelling opportunities.
Equipment Procurement and Installation:
Source and acquire necessary video equipment, ensuring compatibility, reliability, and budget adherence.
Oversee the installation, configuration, and integration of video equipment into the theater's infrastructure, coordinating with other technical teams as needed.
Operation and Maintenance:
Manage the operation of video systems during rehearsals, performances, and events, ensuring proper setup, calibration, and troubleshooting as necessary.
Conduct regular maintenance and testing of video equipment to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
Develop and implement contingency plans to address technical issues and minimize disruptions during live productions.
Content Management and Playback:
Coordinate with content creators and designers to acquire, format, and prepare video content for playback in accordance with production requirements.
Program and operate video playback systems, cueing and synchronizing video elements with other technical cues during performances.
Technical Support and Training:
Provide technical support to producers, team members and clients of TODA.
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in a timely and efficient manner, both during rehearsals, live performances and private events.
Safety and Compliance:
Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations, both in the theater space and in the use of technical equipment.
Implement and maintain rigorous safety protocols for all technical rehearsals and performances, prioritizing the well-being of cast, crew, and audience members.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Theater Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Experience: Extensive experience in video production, preferably in a theatrical or live event setting. Proficiency with video equipment and software, including projectors, media servers, video switchers, and playback systems. Strong knowledge of digital video formats, codecs, compression techniques, and signal processing.
Familiarity with industry-standard protocols and interfaces such as HDMI, SDI, and DMX.
Communication Skills: Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
