Around the World with Saz Stories

For the first time at TODA, "Saz Stories" brings the saz — the resonant stringed instrument at the heart of Middle Eastern and Anatolian folk traditions — on a journey across cultures, led by saz virtuoso and composer Hoshang Habash. More than a concert, the show is built around storytelling: between songs, Hoshang shares the stories behind the music, guiding the audience through each culture and tradition the band draws from.

The set features original compositions as well as songs that reimagine the saz within other musical traditions: an Indian-inspired piece, a folk song rooted in Hoshang's own heritage, an Arabic number, and a reggae detour, each one carrying its own story into the next. Musically, the night moves through reggae, funk, jazz, Latin, ambient, and folk influences alongside the band's own fusion sound.

At the center of it is Hoshang Habash, a saz player, composer, and trained doctor, who has performed at the Damascus Opera House and collaborated with notable artists including Turkish singer İbrahim Tatlıses and Syrian vocalist Linda Bitar.
