Les fleurs de Catherine
The work created as a result of the Vzaimozhi residence was inspired by the Chinese Palace in Peterhof, the only Rococo monument that has survived in Russia in its original form. The palace was built for Empress Catherine II according to the design of the architect Antonio Rinaldi and embodied the aesthetic preferences of the era.

The interiors of the palace were completed by European and Russian masters in the chinoiserie style, a feature of which is inlaid panels made of rare types of wood and mother-of-pearl. The richness of the decor and materials, baroque plant motifs and a rich palette are reflected in the play of color and the variety of shapes of the beautiful flowers created by the artist.
A connecting detail was the fact that Catherine II was passionate about gardening, which was called the "royal art." One of her first attempts to lay out a landscape garden was made right here, in Oranienbaum, under the walls of the Chinese Palace. By creating new types of flowers with golden stamens, the artist imagined that she was doing the work personally commissioned by Catherine II, striving to win the heart of the great empress.
